5 anti-aging tips to turn back the clock

(BPT) – From prevention techniques to surgeries and treatments, it seems as though there is new anti-aging advice circulating daily. But everyone’s skin is different, so how do you know what the right options are for you? Not to mention, which products or practices should you invest in for the best results?

Unfortunately, you can’t go back in time, but there are effective ways to both prevent and treat lines, wrinkles, sun damage and skin aging. Anti-aging creams and wrinkle serums can only take you so far, and there’s no need to go under the knife. Simply adding a few steps to the way you take care of your body can make a world of difference.

Here are some tips to keep in mind surrounding your anti-aging concerns:

Avoid sun exposure. UV exposure is one of the main causes of skin aging. The sun damages elastin and promotes collagen loss which causes the wrinkles and drooping you’re trying to prevent. UV rays can also put you at risk for deadly skin cancers. Reduce your sun exposure by wearing at least SPF 50 on your face, neck, chest, ears and hands every day and wearing UV-protective clothing when playing sports or at the beach. Spend time outside during the early morning or late afternoon, when UV rays are less powerful.

Don’t smoke. Second to sun damage, smoking is another leading cause of premature wrinkles, under eye bags and the loss of an overall glow. Smoking a cigarette constricts your blood flow, keeping your skin from receiving the oxygen it needs for up to 90 minutes. This breaks down collagen and elastin more quickly and makes your skin more prone to broken capillaries and visible veins.

Try a non-invasive treatment. Treatments that involve injections or surgery can be both expensive and dangerous. Before you resort to extreme measures, try a non-invasive treatment like PellevĂ© that uses radiofrequency energy to heat your skin tissues, promoting the production of new collagen. ‘It works particularly well in areas where the skin is thinner, such as the eyes,’ says Dr. Raminder Saluja, a dermatologic cosmetic surgeon in Huntersville, North Carolina. ‘It’s a kinder and gentler way to deliver visible anti-aging results, revitalizing skin from the inside out.’

Take time for your skin. Getting into an effective skin care routine doesn’t have to be about spending money. A little invested time each day can go a long way. Before you go to bed, be sure to remove all your makeup and then wash your face. The air exposes your face to harmful chemicals all day, so don’t let them continue to damage your face at night. Once your face is clean, apply a retinol and a moisturizer before bedtime.

Maintain a skin-healthy diet. Don’t underestimate the power of a well-balanced diet and plenty of water. Younger-looking skin begins with how you choose to fuel your body. As your body’s largest organ, the food you eat directly affects the look of your skin. A skin-healthy diet includes antioxidants, omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids from sources like olive oil, flax seed and fish. Fish-oil supplements will help protect the moisture barrier on your skin, preventing it from drying out. Processed foods and sugar can cause inflammation, so make a point to cut back your intake.

Healthy, younger looking skin starts from the inside. Use these tips to help rejuvenate both the look and feel of your skin. For more skin care tips and advice, visit: pelleve.com.
